Early Optical Toys

Thaumotrope

A simple two sided peice of card with correlating images on both sides. When spun it creates the illusion that the image is one whole rather than two halves.

My thuamotrope worked better than expected. although it could be improved with better drwaing skills.

Zoetrope

A strip of paper containing a few frames that when inserted into the drum type zoetrope and spun it gives the illusion of animation

my Zoetrope worked reasonbly well and could be improved once again by better drawing skills.

Praximoscope

A circle strip of paper similar to the zoetrope but instead reflected in a mirror

My praximoscope worked quite well but could have been improved by making a more detailed design.
